Working Holiday

Working Holiday France: Checklist 2024

Opening dates, mandatory documents and financial plan so you arrive in France with everything sorted out.

Quotas and strategy to get an appointment

The consulate opens the agenda in two batches (March and October) and it sells out in minutes. Create your France-Visas user in advance, preload the form and have your fee payment receipt ready for the same day of the appointment. Use a secondary email to avoid blockages and set up alerts with our Telegram bot to find out as soon as places become available.

Remember that the Working Holiday visa is for 12 months, non-renewable, and does not allow working with contracts longer than 6 months per employer. However, you can alternate jobs and study for up to 6 months without the need for another visa.

Complete checklist before the appointment

  • Argentine passport with a minimum validity of 12 months
  • Criminal record certificate (with apostille) issued less than 3 months ago
  • Comprehensive 12-month medical insurance including repatriation
  • Verifiable funds of at least 2,500 €
  • Return ticket or additional funds to buy it
  • Motivation letter and CV in French (yes, they ask for them)

How to prove funds

Present bank statements for the last 3 months with clear movements. If the money is provided by a relative, attach a notarized letter, a copy of the document and proof of link. Avoid large transfers a day before the appointment; they generate doubts and you may be asked for additional explanations.

Many participants combine savings in local currency + buying euros a few days before. Keep the receipts from the exchange house to support the origin of the money.

Arrival in France: what to do in your first weeks

First 7 days

Process the bank account online and buy the phone line to validate the insurance.

Week 2

Look for stable accommodation (residences, colocations, foyers) and formalize the contract.

Month 1

Register with the CPAM for the sécurité sociale and activate your tax number if you get a job.

Once you sign your first contract, ask the employer to give you the Pôle Emploi attestation and activate your provisional social security number. This allows you to access medical coverage and contribute to unemployment.
